Major Release! Evidence-Based Medicine Drives the Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine: The Inaugural Traditional Medicine Evidence Summit (TES) to Be Held This August in Guangzhou

As the inheritance and innovative development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has risen to the level of national strategy, evidence-based medicine and technological innovation are becoming core drivers of TCM’s modernization and internationalization. Jointly hosted by the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, ITMCTR, and the China Center for Evidence Based Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCEBTCM), and organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine with support from Unicom Smart Healthcare Technology Co., Ltd., the first Traditional Medicine Evidence Summit (TES) will take place from August 15 to 17, 2025 in Guangzhou. With the theme “Evidence-Based Guidance · Integrated Wisdom · Innovative Practice”, this academic summit will bring together academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, authoritative experts from around the world, and top-level national talents. The event aims to promote deep integration between TCM and modern science and technology, and to enhance China’s voice and influence in the global ecosystem of evidence-based traditional medicine.
High-Caliber Lineup Builds an International Academic Hub
As a premier international academic event in the field of traditional medicine, TES will feature a main forum with keynote speeches delivered by esteemed domestic and international academicians and leading experts in evidence-based TCM, artificial intelligence, drug R&D, and regulation. Additionally, four parallel sessions will be held: Common Standardization Technologies and Development of Evidence-Based Guidelines in TCM (including a roundtable: Innovative Methodologies and Journal Leadership Driving Clinical Trial Quality); Intelligent Exploration of the Full Chain of Evidence-Based Research in TCM (including a roundtable: Balancing Tradition and Innovation in the Age of AI); Health Technology Assessment for Medicines and Their Application in Decision-Making; Clinical Research and Translational Practice of Diverse TCM New Drugs. A high-level talent exchange session will also be held, focusing on breakthrough technologies and translational pathways in TCM new drug R&D driven by interdisciplinary collaboration. The summit will include a President Roundtable, inviting presidents of leading TCM and general hospitals from across China and relevant policy experts to engage in high-level dialogue on topics such as efficient transformation strategies for in-hospital TCM preparations and mechanisms for listing and realizing the value of proprietary Chinese medicines within the national medical insurance catalog. Moreover, a closed-door session will be convened to advance the development of regional branches of CCEBTCM, launch the Interdisciplinary Innovation Team for International Registration and Evidence-Based Practice in TCM Clinical Research, and explore the working mechanisms of the International Consortium of Evidence-Based Traditional and Integrative Medicine (ICE-TIM), fostering both domestic collaboration and global cooperation to advance the high-quality development of traditional medicine research worldwide.
China’s Solutions Leading Global Traditional Medicine Development
The summit will feature the official launch of three major “AI+” initiatives: International Traditional Medicine Clinical Trial Registration Ecosystem, Trusted TCM Clinical Trial Data Space Network, and High-Quality Standards and Evidence-Based Datasets. By deeply integrating AI technologies into evidence-based TCM research, these innovations aim to build intelligent decision-making systems for TCM’s dominant conditions, breaking traditional research barriers and offering a globally replicable and scalable “China Solution”. TES will also launch the “CCEBTCM Recs” High-Impact Guideline Development Initiative, which will develop authoritative and practical TCM clinical practice guidelines through strong collaborations with leading journals and the application of internationally recognized evidence-based methodologies. This effort will foster the creation of standardized and executable diagnostic and therapeutic frameworks for traditional medicine, accelerating its standardization and internationalization, and enhancing its contribution to global health systems.
As the host organizations, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, ITMCTR, and CCEBTCM have long been dedicated to advancing scientific and standardized TCM evidence systems and promoting the translation of research outcomes into clinical practice and policy-making.
The summit actively responds to the call of the Major Project Implementation Plan for the Revitalization and Development of TCM, which emphasizes the strengthening of evidence-based capacity. Through academic exchange and the transformation of results, the summit will further consolidate China’s leadership in evidence-based traditional medicine research globally and accelerate the modernization of TCM.
TCM offers unique wisdom to global health. This August in Guangzhou, the TES will serve as a grand academic event where experts and scholars from across the globe gather to share evidence-based research achievements, envision the future of TCM, and inject powerful momentum into its high-quality development.
